Follow this quick guide to check and top off engine oil in your Genesis G70, G80, GV70, GV80, or G90.

The nationwide network of Genesis retailers are always available to provide assistance with vehicle maintenance, including oil changes and oil level readings. But it never hurts to be an informed owner and it can be very useful to know how to check the oil level in the engine of your Genesis G70, G80, GV70, GV80, or G90.

How to Check Oil Levels

  1. Turn on your vehicle or drive until it reaches operating temperature.
  2. Ensure that your Genesis is parked in a safe and level area.
  3. Turn off the vehicle.
  4. Open the hood and locate the oil dipstick. This location will vary per vehicle. For example, the GV70 oil dipstick can be found on the driver’s side, closest to the windshield. It will be marked with a yellow handle.
  5. Pull out the dipstick by its handle and wipe it on a clean towel.
  6. Re-insert the dipstick fully and then remove it again.
  7. Visually inspect the dipstick to check the oil level. It should be evenly between the minimum and maximum marks.
  8. Re-insert the dipstick to finish.
  9. If the oil level is reading low, add oil to the engine and repeat the checking procedure from #5 on.

Engine Oil Change Notification System

While it’s always a good idea to stick to the maintenance schedule determined by your local Genesis retailer, your Genesis vehicle may also automatically calculate and keep you updated on any necessary oil changes or required service. The notification system takes into account a range of factors such as:

●        Ambient temperature during drives

●        Duration of your trips (short trips vs. long road trips)

●        The amount of traffic encountered

What Happens When the Oil Reaches Critical Levels?

As your engine oil nears the end of its lifespan, you’ll receive timely notifications, helping avoid unexpected breakdowns.

●        5% Life Remaining: A warning will flash for 4 seconds on the dashboard when the vehicle is turned on, reminding you that it’s time for an oil change.

●        1% Life Remaining: The instrument cluster will display a more urgent warning for 10 seconds and a constant warning light that stays illuminated until the oil change is completed.

Why Regular Oil Checks Are Critical: The Risks of Ignoring Them

The dangers of neglecting regular oil changes can be costly. Here’s why it matters:

●        Dirty Oil: If oil is not replaced regularly, it may become dirty, leading to engine wear.

●        Improper Lubrication: Low oil levels can lead to reduced engine lubrication, which can result in engine damage if not addressed immediately.

●        Regular Inspection: Inspection of the oil removed from an engine, combined with visual inspection of the engine bay, is key to recognizing issues before they turn serious.

By keeping up with oil changes, guests maintain the vehicle’s health, protect their investment, and avoid unforeseen repair costs.
