FAQs for Genesis's Plug and Charge

Q: What is Plug and Charge?

A: Plug and Charge is a system that enables the EV to tell the charging station to initiate charging without any need for action by the driver. Simply plug in the EV charger into your EV and all relevant communications, including payment information, will be done automatically to enable a charge. 

Q: Where can I use Plug & Charge?

A: Plug and Charge for Genesis is available in the United States on all accessible IONNA, Tesla, and some ChargePoint DC fast charging stations. More networks will be available to Genesis drivers in the coming months. 

 

Q: Why doesn’t my vehicle work with Plug & Charge?

A: Plug and Charge currently works with 2026 Electrified GV70 and 2026 Electrified GV60. Earlier Electrified GV70 and GV60 will need to visit their local Genesis dealership to have Plug and Charge functionality enabled. 

Q: What should I check to use Plug & Charge?

A: For Electrified GV70 and Electrified GV60 users, please install the Plug & Charge function on your EV via over-the-air update and then set up Plug & Charge. You will probably be asked to approve the Plug & Charge function update on your vehicle’s head unit when you turn off your vehicle. After installing the Plug & Charge function on your EV via over-the-air update, please set up Plug & Charge on the GIA App. 

 

Q: When will my vehicle be able to use Plug & ChargE? 

A: Drivers of all Genesis EVs will be able to use Plug & Charge after their Genesis EV receives an Update from their Genesis dealership. More details on this process will be shared closer to when this functionality is available.  

Q: Is there any savings from using Plug & Charge?

A: Not at this time; however, Genesis is constantly looking for ways to save its valued customers money on charging. 

Q: How do I set-up Plug & Charge? 

A: Option 1: New Genesis EV Owners

  1. Please create a GIA account and register your vehicle for connected services 
  2. Enroll into In-App Charging by selecting Public Charging service and then add a card on file using Genesis Pay Select the “Charge” icon from the GIA app home screen. 
  3. Beneath the find a charging station button you will see a link for “Plug & Charge.” 
  4. You will be prompted to enroll in In-App-Charging if you have not done so already. 
  5. If you have enrolled then you will be shown an overview of Plug & Charge and prompted to “Activate.” 
  6. The vehicle will automatically try to pull the plug and charge ID or “PCID” from your vehicle. If this pull is unsuccessful you will need to enter the PCID by scanning a QR code or entering the PCID code manually. 
  7. PCID can be found in the vehicle infotainment under the charging menu / plug and charge section. 
  8. Once the PCID is entered, plug and charge will be shown as “Active.” 

A: Option 2: Existing Genesis EV Owners

  1. Ensure you have enrolled in Genesis Pay and activated In-App-Charging 
  2. Beneath the find a charging station button you will see a link for “Plug & Charge.” 
  3. You will be prompted to enroll in In-App-Charging if you have not done so already. 
  4. If you have enrolled then you will be shown an overview of Plug & Charge and prompted to “Activate.” 
  5. The vehicle will automatically try to pull the plug and charge ID or “PCID” from your vehicle. If this pull is unsuccessful you will need to enter the PCID by scanning a QR code or entering the PCID code manually. 
  6. PCID can be found in the vehicle infotainment under the charging menu / plug and charge section. 
  7. Once the PCID is entered, plug and charge will be shown as “Active.” 

Q: Why do I need a Genesis Pay Account? 

A: The Genesis Pay account securely stores your credit card to be billed when you charge your vehicle. 

Q: How do I unenroll from Plug & Charge?

A: Please see below:

  1. Select the “Charge” icon from the GIA app home screen. 
  2. Beneath the find a charging station button you will see a link for “Plug & Charge.” 
  3. Click “Deactivate” to turn-off Plug & Charge functionality. 

Q: Why do I need to re-enroll in Plug & Charge?

A: You can activate and deactivate Plug & Charge whenever you want. You can activate it when you want to use it, and if you are lending your car to someone else, you can deactivate it so that Plug & Charge does not work. 

Q: How often do I need to re-enroll in Plug & Charge?

A: Normally, it takes up to 10 seconds to activate and deactivate. You can activate and deactivate as many times as you want. 

Q: How do I find a charging station?

A: Please follow these steps: 

  1. Select “Charge” icon from your app home screen. 
  2. A map will appear showing EV charging stations around you. 
  3. Filter based on charging network, speed, connector type, or distance from your location. You can also save stations as favorites for faster navigation.  
  4. Click-on “send-to-car” to push the station location to your cars navigation and drive to the charging station. 

Q: How do I start a charging session using Plug & Charge? 

A: Plug the connector into the vehicle and the car will start the charging session automatically when charging on a Plug & Charge enabled station.  

Q: How do I stop a charging session using Plug & Charge?

A: There are two ways. Please see below: 

  1. How to stop the Plug & Charge function from your EV 
  2. On the vehicle’s head unit, go to “EV → Setting → Plug & Charge” 
  3. You will see the “Plug & Charge” On/Off toggle switch. 
  4. If you turn the “Plug & Charge” toggle switch to OFF, Plug & Charge will not start on your EV. 
  5. How to stop the Plug & Charge function in the GIA App: 
  6. Select the “Charge” icon from the GIA App home screen 
  7. Beneath the ‘Find a Charging Station’ button, you will see a link for “Plug & Charge” 
  8. Click “Deactivate” to turn off Plug & Charge functionality. If you try to start charging with Plug & Charge after deactivation, it will be disconnected within 1 minute and you will not be charged.
