Getting a flat tire is not ideal but the Genesis Tire Mobility Kit (TMK) can help get your vehicle back on the road temporarily and on its way to a Genesis dealership.
The Tire Mobility Kit includes:
- A sealing compound to patch small punctures.
- An air compressor to reinflate the tire.
This compact, easy-to-use kit is a practical solution for small punctures (less than 1/4 inch) but is unsuitable for sidewall damage or larger holes. Note that the Tire Mobility Kit is single-use only and once connected, the sealant bottle cannot be removed from the compressor, ensuring it should not be used again.
How to Use the Tire Mobility Kit
1. Find a Safe Spot:
● Park away from traffic.
● Turn on hazard lights.
2. Prepare the Kit:
● Retrieve the Tire Mobility Kit from the vehicle's storage compartment.
● Check the expiration date on the sealing compound bottle.
● Shake the sealant bottle to mix the contents.
3. Attach the Sealant and Compressor:
● Remove the sealant bottle cover (if equipped) and connect it to the compressor. Depending on model, the sealant bottle either connects directly or uses an adapter to install in-line with the compressor air hose.
● Securely attach the compressor hose to the tire’s valve stem.
4. Power Up the Compressor:
● Depending on model, plug the compressor into the vehicle’s power outlet or to the under-hood battery terminals.
● Start the vehicle and turn the compressor ON.
5. Inflate the Tire:
● Run the compressor for 5–7 minutes.
● Ensure the tire pressure exceeds 29 PSI (check the driver’s side door frame sticker for recommended levels).
6. Drive and Re-check:
● Disconnect the compressor and drive for 10 minutes (between 12–50 mph) to distribute the sealant.
● Stop and check tire pressure. Top off if necessary.
While the Tire Mobility Kit can be effective, it’s not a permanent fix. The sealant provides a temporary repair for up to 120 miles, which gives Genesis drivers enough time to reach a Genesis service facility.
When the Kit Won’t Work
The Tire Mobility Kit won’t help if:
● The puncture is on the sidewall.
● The hole is more significant than a quarter inch.
In these cases, drivers must immediately call for roadside assistance or replace the tire.
Why Visit a Genesis Service Center Urgently
After using the Tire Mobility Kit, head to your nearest Genesis service center. While the kit is a temporary fix, the experts at Genesis can assist in the following:
● Assess the tire for further damage.
● Perform a permanent repair or replacement.
The Genesis Tire Mobility Kit is a valuable tool for addressing minor tire emergencies, but it should not be used as a substitute for professional tire repair. Using the kit as intended and following up with a visit to a Genesis service facility can ensure your safety and your vehicle's optimal performance.
