Electric vehicle (EV) charging can come in a variety of charging levels and types, each offering different charging speeds and nozzle shapes.

Your Genesis EV features advanced charging technology specific to its model year, so it’s important to understand which charging stations are compatible with your vehicle:

• Pre-2026 Genesis EV Models: Equipped with CCS (Combined Charging System) charging ports, compatible with CCS Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 type chargers.

• 2026+ Genesis EV Models: Equipped with NACS (North American Charging Standard) charging ports, similar to those used at Tesla Supercharger stations.

Identifying Chargers By Type

Genesis EVs support chargers of different levels and types. Depending on the charger type and the model year of your EV, some chargers may require adapters to plug into your EV.

Level 1 Chargers (AC)

Level 1 AC chargers are 120-volt, 12-amps and use standard 3-prong household electrical outlet plugs. These can be plugged into many standard household outlets. Level 1 chargers follow the CCS charging standard and their charging nozzle comes in a round shape (pictured). Genesis EVs produced before model year 2026 may have come with a Level 1 AC mobile charger.

These chargers are the easiest to plug in at home but also the slowest, sometimes taking up to 72 hours to charge an EV battery from 10 – 100%. 

Pre-2026 Genesis EVs are natively compatible with this charger type, while 2026 and newer models will need an adapter.

Level 2 Chargers (AC)

Level 2 AC chargers are 240-volt, 48-amps and are commonly found at public EV charging stations. Level 2 AC home charging units come equipped with electrical plugs similar to clothes dryers and must be plugged into properly equipped outlets. These chargers follow the CCS charging standard and their charging nozzle comes in a round shape similar to Level 1 chargers. 

Level 2 AC chargers provide a large increase in charging speed over Level 1, allowing EV charging from 10 – 100% in about 7 hours and 20 minutes. 

Pre-2026 Genesis EVs are natively compatible with this type, while 2026 and newer models will require an adapter.

Level 3 DC Fast Chargers 

Found primarily at public charging stations, Level 3 DC fast chargers are the quickest option for charging your EV. They utilize a large, dual-plug CCS nozzle and can charge an EV from 10–80% in as little as 18 minutes when using a 350kW-capable unit. For pre-2026 Genesis EVs, these chargers are natively compatible, allowing you to plug in directly. However, 2026 and newer Genesis models will require an adapter to connect to a Level 3 CCS charger. It is important to note that you should only use a Level 3 adapter with a matching charger, as connecting a Level 1 or 2 nozzle could damage the equipment.

NACS Chargers

NACS chargers can be found at Tesla Supercharger stations and a growing number of public EV charging stations. These use an oval type of nozzle and typically deliver up to 250 kW of charging capability.

NACS chargers are natively compatible with 2026 and newer Genesis EVs and will plug right in. Genesis EVs produced before model year 2026 will require an adapter to use a NACS charger.
